Mount Frere
Mount Frere is a small town in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa approx. 50km's from Mount Ayliff. Mount Frere was found in the 17th century and named after Sir Henry Bartle Edward Frere.
Mount Frere is located in the Eastern Cape province (previously known as the Transkei region) of South Africa and it is governed by the Alfred Nzo District Municipality, and the villages are ruled by the Chiefs and intermediary borders.
Mount Frere is situated between Kokstad and Mthatha along the N2 about 100 km North East of Mthatha. Most of the businesses and shops are situated along the Main street. The Main street has many restaurants, shops and many other public services including the Police Station, Post Office, Municipal offices and the newly built Madzikane Ka Zulu Memorial Hospital.
Mount Frere is surrounded by many rural villages including Dangwana, Kumahahane, Mbondleni, Mtwana, Mtshazi, Mvuzi, Toleni, Qoqa and many others.
Activities in and around Mount Frere: During the last few years, many cultural villages have been established to reflect the different cultures and traditions of South Africans. The traditional lifestyle of the people is shown to the visitor in an environment that encourages him / her to be a part of it. 2 km outside Mount Frere, Isinamva Cultural Village, guarantees a cultural experience of a lifetime!
